Building Backpack
Outschool has experienced exponential growth over the past two years. Rapid expansion has put pressure on teams to quickly create solutions to meet specific requirements or deadlines. Without the ability to build on a strong foundation, one-off solutions have created a fragmented user experience as well as technical and design debt - making it hard to collaborate and create high-quality experiences. To provide more systematic ways to guide and leverage our collective efforts Outschool set out to create a design systems team. As the lead designer on the design systems team at Outschool, I was responsible for building, maintaining, and evolving our design system.
The goal of Backpack is to create common design language. Backpack should allow for faster collaboration and iteration among designers and developers through well-defined and reusable components. Backpack is about clearing the way for others to invent and imagine.
